The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a new variant of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's (HAL) aircraft 'Hindustan 228-201 LW', which will have a seating capacity of 19 passengers. In an announcement on Monday, HAL said the variant has a maximum take-off weight of 5695 kg with a capacity of 19 passengers.
With this modification, the aircraft would fall into the category of Sub 5700 kg aircraft. This option provides operators with several operational benefits, such as reduced pilot qualification requirements allowing pilots with commercial pilot licenses to fly the aircraft, increased availability of the pilot pool for the aircraft, and reduced operating costs.
In addition, the new option will lead to reduced training requirements for flying and ground personnel, including aircraft maintenance engineers. HAL also has approval for a 6200 kg AUW with a capacity of 19 passengers.
